What we build
Ships Clean builds custom software for businesses too small for an in-house IT team: automation pipelines, internal tools, system integrations, and the monitoring and handoff that keep them running. We are based in Pittsburgh, PA. Email contact@shipsclean.com to scope a project.
Automation pipelines
An automation pipeline is software that moves data and triggers actions across your tools without a person doing it by hand. We build scheduled and event-driven pipelines for Pittsburgh businesses, with logging and retries so they keep running unattended.
Most back-office work is the same handful of steps repeated: pull a record from one system, transform it, push it to another, send a notification. We turn that into a pipeline that runs on a schedule or fires on an event, validates its inputs, retries on failure, and tells you when something needs a human.
A nightly reconciliation that took a person two hours can run in minutes, untouched.
Internal tools
An internal tool is a focused app built around how your team actually works, instead of a spreadsheet and three browser tabs. We design and build internal dashboards, forms, and consoles for small teams in the Pittsburgh area.
When a process lives in a spreadsheet plus a recurring Slack thread, mistakes hide in the gaps. We build a single screen that holds the data, enforces the rules, and shows the team what to do next. It is built for the people doing the work, not for a demo.
One console replaces a spreadsheet, three tabs, and a standing meeting.
System integration
System integration connects the tools you already pay for so data flows between them automatically. We build the APIs, webhooks, and queues that move records between your store, CRM, accounting, and fulfillment systems.
You already bought good software. The problem is the copy-paste step between each system. We build the connectors, handle authentication and rate limits, and add the retries and dead-letter handling that keep the data flowing when one service has a bad day.
Orders flow from store to accounting to fulfillment with no manual re-entry.
Monitoring and handoff
Monitoring and handoff are the alerting, documentation, and ownership transfer that make a system yours to run, not a black box only we understand. We set these up on every build before we step away.
A system that only the builder understands is a liability. We add alerting that names the failing step, run docs your team can follow, and a walkthrough so you hold the code and the keys. We stay reachable, but you are never dependent on us.
When something breaks at 2am, your on-call gets a useful alert, not a mystery.
Frequently asked questions
What kind of businesses does Ships Clean work with?
Ships Clean works with small and mid-sized businesses that need custom software but are too small to staff an in-house IT or engineering team. We are based in Pittsburgh, PA and work with local and remote clients.
How much does a project cost?
Project cost depends on scope, the number of systems involved, and how much custom logic is required. Email contact@shipsclean.com with what you want automated and we will scope it.
How long does a typical project take?
Most projects run in short weekly iterations so you see working software early. We cut scope before we cut quality, and we agree on the scope in writing up front.
Do we own the code when you are done?
Yes. You own the code, the documentation, and the credentials. We hand off a system you can run and modify, and we provide run docs and a walkthrough.
Do you work with the tools we already use?
Yes. We build integrations against the systems you already pay for using their APIs, webhooks, and queues, rather than asking you to switch platforms.
Not sure which of these you need? Tell us the process that eats your week and we will tell you what it takes. See examples of our work or get in touch.
